About Turks and Caicos: The Turks and Caicos Islands are located only 575 miles southeast of Miami and 90 miles north of Haiti. The islands are situated between 21 degrees and 22 degrees latitude and between 71 degrees and 72 degrees longitude and are truly one of the best kept secrets of the Caribbean.
The Turks and Caicos Islands are composed of an archipelago of eight major islands and about 40 uninhabited cays. The islands are surrounded by over 230 miles of virgin coral reef and lined by miles of soft white sandy beaches. Climate: TCI enjoys a constant light breeze which maintains the average temperatures between the 70s in the winter and low 90s in the late summer. The average rainfall is only 40 inches, most of which is experienced between August and October.
Getting Here: The following airlines offer flights to Providenciales, Turks and Caicos:
• American Airlines offers multiple flights a day from Miami. This flight time is approximately one hour and twenty minutes.
• American Airlines also offers a weekly direct flight to Provo from JFK airport in New York as well as from Boston.
• US Airways offers a daily flight from Charlotte and two flights on Saturday. This flight time is approximately two hours and forty-five minutes.
• US Airways also offers direct service from Philadelphia on Saturday, which has a flight time of approximately three and a half hours.
• Delta Airlines offers a flight from Atlanta to Provo everyday of the week except Tuesday and Wednesday. This flight time is typically two and a half hours.
• Spirit Airlines offers service from Fort Lauderdale on Saturday and Sunday which has a flight time of approximately one hour and forty five minute.
• British Airways offers a flight on Sunday to Provo via Nassau, Bahamas.
• During the high season (December 15th to April 30) charters provide service from many major cities in the Unites States and Canada.
Immigration/Entry Requirements: All visitors require a valid passport to enter the country. An onward or returning ticket are also required, no visitor may enter on a one way ticket. Those that wish to live in TCI must obtain a residency permit. Those that want to work or establish a business in these islands must have a work permit and/or a business license from the government.
Customs Regulations: Visitors may bring in for their own use one (1) carton of cigarettes or cigars, one (1) bottle of liquor, and some perfume without paying duty. For amounts exceeding the duty free allowance, a duty of 10% to 30% is charged. The importation of firearms, controlled drugs, and pornography is strictly prohibited.
Getting Married in Paradise: Destination weddings, particularly in these beautiful islands, are becoming more and more popular. In order to get married in the Turks and Caicos Islands you must be in residence for at least twenty four hours before the ceremony. A marriage license may be obtained from the Chief Secretary's office in Providenciales or Grand Turk at a cost of $50.00. You can arrange to be married in a civil ceremony by a marriage officer appointed by the Government or, if you prefer to be married in a church, you can contact any of the churches on the island. Pets: There is no quarantine for incoming and visiting pets. A valid veterinary certificate garuanteeing that the animal is in good health and is up to date on all vaccinations, particularly rabies, is required. The Public Health Inspector will examine the animal upon arrival. Some dog breeds are prohibited including but not limited to Pit Bulls, Rottweillers, German Sheppards, all Mastiffs, etc. Please contact the Public Health Inspector for a complete listing of prohibited breeds.
Ground Transportation: There are several car rental companies on Provo. It is recommended that you arrange for a rental vehicle prior to your arrival on island. In order to rent a car in the Turks and Caicos Islands you must be at least twenty one years of age and must hold a valid driver's license. Remember we drive on the left side of the road. If you do not wish to rent a car there are also many taxi services that would be happy to serve you from the time you arrive at the airport.
Departure Tax: An airport tax of $30 is levied on persons over 2 years old.
